Chapter 16: Words with Negative Prefixes
Core Words:
illegal nonstandard illiterate impossible impartial illegible imperfect illogical inactive nonskid independent nonliving incorrect irrational irregular impatient nonprofit insecure indigestion nonviolent Challenge Words: impersonal incapable inconclusive inescapable irresponsible |
The prefixes ir-, il-, im-, in-, and non- change the meaning of the base word to a negative. Something that is IMpossible is NOT possible. Someone who is NONviolent is NOT violent. Use the prefix ir- when the base word starts with an r. Use the prefix il- when the base word starts with an l. I know that you will master these words -- but I'm impartial! |
