Understanding and Embracing "Go Math"
"How can I help my child with his homework if I don't understand it myself?"
"I didn't learn to divide this way."
"Does my child really need to understand five different ways to multiply three digit numbers?"
"I give up."
For many years, parents have expressed frustration over the "Go Math"program, the mandated text for all math instruction throughout Granite School District. The concepts are familiar-- ones they themselves learned in elementary and middle school. The way those concepts are presented, however, is often anything but. Well-meaning parents are often faced with a page of math problems with one example and no real instruction. Some muddle through it, others seek guidance on the internet; and some, in complete frustration, take out their red pens and write the words shown above.
There is hope-- and help-- for those who are struggling with the "new math" techniques through the ThinkCentral website.
